I'm thrilled to have OE back (remember this?). OE is a dear friend, and the fabulously talented mama behind Girl Meets Baby. I'm gaga over her take on Doc Martens. Enjoy!!
Hello again ANMJ readers... Eek! I am not sure if I am more excited to re-guest post here or cover this awesome topic: good ol’ Doc Martens.
Ok y’all, they’re back — in a big way. And no longer are they strictly reserved for the punk rock grunge culture or ‘Hot Topic’ crowd. These babies are making their way into real deal fashion. My eighth grade self is blindly diving head-first back into this trend.
I am here today to show you a few ways to style these bad boys and hopefully give you a bunch of tips on size, fit, and breaking them in with the least amount of pain as possible.
Mamas, have I the trend for you. We've talked about track pants ad naseum, but there is oh-so-much-more sporty joy in this world: stripey tees, comfy joggers, playground sneaks, and baseball hats eve-er-ee-where. My comfort-loving heart just wants to explode with joy.
Here's a few thoughts on sportin' the sporty duds....
Well. Two things I never thought I'd be discussing together: Cancer...and NY Fashion Week. But there it is.
First up...hair. After a long (mostly internal) debate...I decided to cut my hair in stages. It's coming out anyway, in a matter of weeks. In fact, by the time most of you are reading this, I'm probably down at Penn getting my first chemo treatment. Gulp. I was originally planning to cut it all off and donate my hair....but....
I'm not ready.
In my defense, I think my little guys need to see it go gradually - hopefully it'll help ease the transition. One of my good friends traumatized her young daughter by cutting her hair into a much shorter (and super chic) bob - the nerve!
So with the help of my insanely amazing stylist Shannon (ask for her at Salon Ziza), I have a few haircuts I'll be trying out on my way to bald. ("Honey, it's so liberating!" says my Mom. F-THAT says me.) If you want to peek (or help - please help!!) I'm pinning some ideas onto this Pinterest board.
And now...haircut ONE (and also what I wore to NYFW):
Mamas, it's time to talk Fall Trends!! First up....the moto jacket.
I fully support running out and grabbing some badass leather moto jacket (this one is fabulous). I mean...Miranda Kerr sports one, baby in tow, so there you go. It's possible. And many of you have previously confirmed that it is indeed easy to wipe spit-up off of a leather jacket. There's no disputing that a leather moto jacket will seriously up your style game...forever. They're classic.
My issue, however, with leather jackets in general is the same issue I have with most jackets in general: I can't move my arms. And nothing makes me crazier than when my arms are constricted - especially when cruising around with the kiddos.
Happily, there are a ton of amazingly chic, made-to-move, washable moto jackets on the market. And if you treat your moto jacket like it's any old thing and throw it on over everything....BAM. Lookin' good, Mama.
Here are a few ways I'm wearing my moto jacket (both playtime and date night):
While I was home in June, my sister and I had a discussion about crop tops. She was pro, I was...meh. Until I remembered that I had one. (It was on clearance for $4.99 at Ann Taylor. Reason enough, right?)
Ok, Mamas. First things first. Wanna see my new boobs?
Their perkiness is beyond my wildest dreams. I may never need a bra again! I mean YES - the shirt is strategically covering a whole mess of bandages and scars and my one remaining nipple is sorta facing the wrong direction....but all of that is fixable in time. Pretty cleavage for the win!
And after this awful, horrible month...I really needed a win.
Now - onto the next announcement!
I am honored to introduce Bradamant, a new line of bodyshirts.
Mamas, my sister (the younger gorgeous blond in the pic above) has an assortment of denim cut-offs that are to die for. They are perfectly distressed, a worn-in blue that is nearly impossible to find, AND cheap. Oh, and they come in several lengths, which made them totally irresistible to my own mom.
Now that is grandma style I hope to be rocking someday.
Anyway, Scotti sources her shorty-shorts at two places: Abercrombie (worn by Scotti and I) and American Eagle (on my mom).
Here are my current favs - which are all currently on sale, BTW, for roughly $25!
It's me, Cams. Some of you may know me by now, but if not...well, hello. Nice
to meet you! :). I blog over at Life in Mod- all about being a mama, styling
through all of the changes life brings, yada yada. It's a fun gig. ps. I am now
14 weeks pregnant with our 2nd...which is awesome.
She's amazing, eh? Let me just say that first and foremost. She has been such
an amazing example of strength for me these past few months. Every time I have
spoken to her within the past couple of months she has blown me away with her
positive attitude. It's like, wow...if I was in the same situation would I
handle it with such grace, patience and ...even spunk? Probably not. She's a
superwoman. S, I am so happy to have met you via the blogosphere. I consider you
a dear friend (as silly as that may sound since all of our communication has
been 99% blog related). Still. I really do. You are a blessing to so many. xx.
that all of my sap is gone, let us move on... ;)
This is our monthly series called How We Wear It, where *we* show all of the different ways to rock a wardrobe basic. And by "we" I mean...all y'all. If there was One. Thing. our readers have communicated again and again, it's this: You want to see a wide range of body types represented here on ANMJ.
So. I'll show you how I've been styling my old standbys, and so will Cam. And then, dear readers, we want to hear from YOU. You can play along via our Linky party at the bottom (you can sign up at the bottom of this article or on Cam's page), you can send us an email (send it to either Cam or me), upload a pic to ANMJ's Facebook page, or use Instagram with the hashtag: #howwewearit or #anmj. As reader pics come in, I'll be keeping this page up-to-date.
