YOU GUYS...I met the Sartorialist!! And Garance!! And by "met" I mean I attended their book signing.
As much as I'd love to claim that Scott (he's Scott now) was all "Shana, Darling! I've been following your blog - tell Mike his pictures are much improved! Coffee? Tomorrow?" It was...uh...NOT that.
But he and Garance were both wonderfully gracious and funny and I was...well, I was totally off my game. Not one to get starstruck normally (except for this one other time) we were whisked to the front of the line simply because we had brought the kids. (Stupidly thinking that this would be a quick in-and-out operation). But the folks running the book signing were so nice, had kids of their own (as does Scott), and whooshed us right up. Leaving me surprised to suddenly find myself standing in front of two of the biggest names in blogging. Oh, GOD. Mamas, I was giggly. In that horrible breathless sort of way. Garance had said she liked my skirt, which left me so flustered it was all I could do to keep from blurting DO YOU WANT TO TAKE MY PICTURE? I mean seriously, S! GET. IT. TOGETHER. I don't think I even introduced myself, instead asking inane questions like "How do you like Philly?" Awesome. I'm sure they've only answered that one 4593845720 times. At some point during my over-smiling and head-bobbing, Mike rescued me. He strode up, introduced himself like a normal person, and told them both how much we admire their work and that they have truly been an inspiration. Then he strode away after the kids, leaving me all What He Said.
So. I'm pretty sure that if I left any impression at all (I'm betting on no)...it's one of a cute skirt* and a great husband.
*Technically it was a dress, so they would be mostly right. Close enough.
But despite my poor performance, I am glad we went. It was a MAJOR style event in Philly, and the people watching was ah-mazing. Want to see? Head on over to Urban Fieldnotes (I'll bet you recognize some faces).
Urban Fieldnotes, BTW, is written by our good friend Brent (and husband to Jess of the headscarf). Brent is an anthropologist who decided to study street style blogging. In order to properly immerse himself in the scene, he started his own blog, Urban Fieldnotes. His pics are great (including his pics of the Sartorialist visit), but it's his writing that puts him at the top of my must-read list. His observations are insightful and often witty. Truly a fresh voice (and often a self-deprecating one) in the world of street style blogging.
