Best Nursing Camis Ever – Target Scores Again with Gilligan & O'Malley!

 I like to think that on this, my second babe, I’m wiser for the wear but sometimes life changing improvements just happen by dumb luck.  Sure, it’s probably a bit of an exaggeration, but with 20-month and three-week-old babes at home and on as little sleep as that would seem to indicate, simple pleasures are where it’s at. 

 I tried a ton of nursing tanks my first go ‘round with the boy wonder, but never found one I really loved.  The snaps sucked or the fabric had a weird sheen, they weren’t long enough or the waist had apparently been cut for someone who was still pregnant.  Enter the new Gilligan & O’Malley nursing camis.  They rock and they’re cheap to boot.  They don’t offend on any of the aforementioned points and they’re widely available in the intimates section of Target. 

 If you tried a Giligan & O’Malley nursing cami a year or two ago and didn’t like it, try again—these are cut slimmer, have a more flattering neckline, better fabric and great support.  I wouldn’t play tennis in one, but for a leisurely day around the house or kickin’ around town, they’re just what the nursing mother ordered, and they’re perfect as sleepwear and hold nursing pads in place, too.

The best part?  These babies are priced at only $16.99, a far cry from the (in my opinion) inferior GLAMOURMOM  nursing tanks available at A Pea in the Pod for more than $40.  Get one in every color!

I love these camis! I have several white ones, a black one, and a pink one. I like wearing them under my clothes so that when I lift up my shirt to nurse, no one can see the back/side fat my 4-month-old has left me with. I also like wearing them under wrap dresses instead of regular camis. They're fitting enough that there's no extra bulges at the waist when you tie the dress. You have a 20-month-old and a newborn? My children are also very close in age. I hope things are going well for you!

Are they long like the Glamourmom tanks? I bought a Gilligan back in March and it was so short!

I also like Target's stretchy Mossimo camis because you can just pull them down with your nursing bra. Do you have any more fashion tips for nursing moms? I've pretty much run through the nursing tops from the local stores and non-nursing tops that work for nursing are a bit too...exposing. I feel like I dress like a teenager instead of an adult. Any tips on 'aging' my style while still nursing on demand?

I guess this is a question of preference and it also  depends on your build, the size you buy and whether you machine-dry your camis.  Theyre long enough for me--three weeks post-partum and they cover my belly and the rubber band Im using to keep my pre-preg jeans fastened (I am DONE with maternity!)--but I have a short torso and I hang dry items such as these.

Great Q, thanks Sarah!  As the weather has gotten cooler, these camis have become even more of a staple for me.  To age or make this uber-functional style more sophisticated, I like wearing them under long cardigans, more structured button-front sweaters and of course, you can always go with a faux-wrap, wrap, button-front or half-button front shirt, too.  Ill do a follow up post to highlight some of these options, but some of my favorites are from Old Navy, a brand I like for those first few transitional post-partum months because while I love to get out of maternity items as soon as possible, I hate spending a lot on clothes that will be too big (InshaAllah :) by the end of the season.  Ive also been doing these looks with neck scarves, using the scarf as a hooter hider to avoid feeling so exposed.

I hear your pain, though. I finally had to embrace the fact that I'm pretty much always walking around with loads of cleavage. I use a lot of scarves, and always make sure I'm wearing a pretty nursing bra. Sigh. We'll work on something and get back to you.
