My friend called the other day. Halloween was less than a week away, and she didn’t plan on getting a costume. Until she found out the other Moms in her playgroup would be dressing up. She wanted to know if wearing black and orange socks would be OK. With an Old Navy Halloween themed tshirt. No. No, No, No. Halloween themed Tshirts are one step away from the dreaded Christmas sweater. My friend didn’t want to be in costume but wanted to look festive and be able to blend in with the other moms. Here are a couple of ideas:
When in Doubt, Dress up, Wear Black
This rule holds true for almost any occasion, including Halloween. To make it work for Halloween, throw on a little black dress (any will work), black tights, black shoes. You are now all in black - you could be a witch, Morticia, etc. Or, draw two little lines on your neck in red lipstick -- you are now a victim of a vampire bite! Plus, the fact that you have put on a dress will make the occasion more festive, and you will certainly blend in with the other moms.
All three of the LBDs pictured above come from Target. The wrap dress would be good for breastfeeding moms. Click on any of the photos to be taken to target.com to purchase. But again, any LBD in you closet will work.
Watch Out Boys....
Again, wear all black. Add any little animal print item you own - cardigan, shoes, wrap, whatever. You are now festive (all black for Halloween) and are giving off the vague impression of an animal. Are you a cheetah? Leopard? Cougar? Yes - most likely, if over 30, you are going as a cougar. Add some obnoxious fake diamonds. At least it will get a laugh from the crowd.
This cougar’s leopard print cardigan is from Michael Kors, and can be found at Nordstroms for $100. The ring is from Target for $16.
